Nivek Catering Supplies have witnessed many developments and innovations within the industry during recent years. The single biggest change has been the emphasis on environmentally friendly packaging. We also fully appreciate that certain 'eco-friendly' products are just not viable within cost sector catering. We are happy to discuss individual requirements, and will always compile a package that is both environmentally and budget friendly.
Nivek Catering Supplies actively promote environmentally friendly packaging solutions, and together with our suppliers are constantly looking to increase our range of biodegradable and compostable products.
At present, there are numerous views, ideas and solutions to an environmentally friendly product range. We currently stock two main types of products, they are Polylactic Acid (PLA) based products and Fibre Moulded products. PLA is an eco-friendly alternative to plastic, its characteristics include:
- Alternative to conventional petrochemical derived products
- Derived from renewable resources (corn starch, sugar, wheat)
- Production requires fewer fossil fuels
- Generates less greenhouse gasses
- Looks and feels like traditional plastic packaging
- Composting PLA leads to complete decomposition (turning into water and carbon dioxide)
The alternative to traditional polystyrene, board or plastics is Fibre Moulded products. The benefits are:
- Made from natural materials (non-wood plant, sugar cane, reed fibre)
- Suitable for microwaves and chillers
- 100°C water resistant
- 150°C oil resistant
- Biodegradable and compostable
